Reclaimed Waters

Anyone know what reclaimed waters are? A few weeks ago we got a postcard in the mail inviting the neighborhood to the this water purification plant for a tour.  I thought it was through the city or the state.   The crazy parent I am, I thought it would be a great learning experience for the kids. We went, it was pouring rain but we still wanted the kids to have an educational experience.
So like I said I thought it was a place where the city sent the water and turned it in to drinking water....I was wrong.  They are actually independently owned and provide a service to the city.  They take toilet water or drain water and purify it and turn in to non potable water.  When this water is purified, they sell it to the many golf course to fill their ponds and water their greens. They told us anywhere we see purple faucets or sprinklers, it is reclaimed waters.  We were told eventually thier plan is to take toilet water and turn it in to drinking water...like they do in JAPAN!
So next time you step on your 18 hole golf course or fall in to a man made pond....something to think about... =) haha
